Bethesda Naval Hospital (03/2006), between surgeries (12/2007), New York Presbyterian Hospital (03/2008), nursing student (09/2009)
I joined the Marines in January of 2006 and was a candidate at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, VA (OCC 191, Charlie Co., 4th Plt.). On March 1st, 2006 I broke my hip during combat drills and was rushed into surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. I spent the next 4 days in the hospital, and 7 months on crutches.
7 months later in May of 2007, I had the hardware removed from my leg and spent another 6 weeks on crutches.
5 months later in October of 2007, I found out I had AVN in my hip, and underwent a FVFG (free vascularized fibular graft) in March of 2008. I spent the next 7 days in the hospital, and 6 months on crutches.
In November of 2008 I retired from the Marine Corps and was placed on the Temporary Disability Retirement List. Then, in August of 2010, I was permanently retired.
I currently live in New York City.
