One week away

In exactly one week I will be pulling through the front gates of Marine Corps Base Quantico. It seems everyone wants to know if I’m nervous, I think everyone going to Quantico is nervous. Hearing the stories and seeing the pictures will make anyone question why they signed up for this, and we’re not even there yet.

When I pull through that gate, I will be giving up all of the simple freedoms that for the past 24 years I’ve taken for granted.

  1. Yes the freedom that civilians take so much for granted. But it won’t be that bad. Soon you’ll be a 2ndLT in the Marine Corps and you will be a true leader of Marines. Once again good luck.

  2. Good luck– and remember, black shiny belt = platoon sergeant, green canvas belt = sergeant instructor.

  3. To my knowledge, we no longer address staff as Sergeant instructer, etc. We address them by rank and name, thus giving us another thing to screw up.

  4. Nice! It’s been a few years… Good luck, you’ll do fine. I was starting sentences with “this candidate” for a month or two after OCS…
