Met with the LtCdr at Newport Naval Hospital again today to discuss my MRI. The good news is there is no evidence of osteonecrosis. The bad news is that since my femur hasn’t healed yet, it probably isn’t going to heal. He has recommended that I have another surgery, an osteotomy. An osteotomy involves removing the screws, removing the bone at the site of the fracture, and setting the bone in the proper position with a metal plate.
I meet with my local orthopedic specialist on August 29th. Should I go through with the surgery, it will be another 3 months from the surgery until I can even think about walking again.
The LtCdr also said at this point in time my chances of a future as a Marine Officer are slim. That with every step I take while running I’ll be reminded that I broke my hip, and that possibly the only way to have a pain-free life would be to sit behind a desk.
Unfortunately, that isn’t an option.

I’m sorry to hear that. I know you can make it… that you will make it. This will make you one hell of a dedicated officer when you get through OCS.
Quite a story.
